Want to Try Scuba Diving? Take the Discover Scuba Diving Course in Roatan!

For those who have tried snorkelling, there’s nothing quite like getting up close with the sea life to gain a clearer view of how and where they live. But if you’re like a lot of snorkelers, at some point you’ll feel the frustration of not being able to get close enough or stay underwater long enough to truly appreciate the aquatic environment. Well, we have the solution for you. Want to try scuba diving? Take the Discover Scuba Diving Course in Roatan! Roatan Divers has two locations on the island – in West End and in Sandy Bay on-site at Blue Bahia Resort. This award winning boutique operation offers top notch scuba diving courses for people of all skill levels.

Why Scuba Dive In Roatan?

The snappy answer to that question is, “Why not?!?” The more nuanced answer is multi-layered. For one, Roatan features some of the most economical scuba diving prices in the world. You may have heard that scuba diving is an expensive sport. If you’re looking at lessons in San Francisco or New York City, it probably is! And while scuba diving will definitely cost you more than renting a snorkel and mask, doing it in Roatan makes it quite affordable.

Another reason to scuba dive in Roatan is the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. This is the world’s second largest barrier reef, after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Roatan sits right along the southwest edge of the reef and offers incredibly easy access to it’s wide variety of oceanic flora and fauna. It doesn’t take hours to boat out to the reef – from some places on the island it’s an easy swim away!

And if those two reasons aren’t enough for you, you have the island of Roatan itself. This tropical paradise, situated off the north coast of the Central American country of Honduras, is a sun and sea worshipper’s dream. It offers everything you’d expect from an island getaway at prices that stretch your dollar farther than the other more crowded vacation destinations.

The Discover Scuba Diving Course

The Discover Scuba Diving Course is exactly what it sounds like – a course for people who are curious about scuba diving, aren’t sure if it’s really for them, but are looking to discover what scuba diving is all about. The half day course allows you to experience scuba diving with trained professionals who guide you through all the technical details, the safety skills and allow you to familiarize yourself with the equipment. You’ll get to do a dive in the exact same way as certified divers while being closely watched by certified instructors. You’re under no obligation, but you’ll get firsthand experience with diving that can be used towards further certifications.

The Discover Scuba Diving Course Lesson Plan

You start off the Discover Scuba Diving Course on dryland with a presentation by your instructor. You’ll learn all the basics about scuba diving, the gear you’ll be using and the safety precautions that need to be kept in mind. This will be followed by a short video that will further explain the experience you’re about to undergo.

After the classroom session it’s time to get in the water! You’ll start off in very shallow water. Just enough to be able to submerge your body and tanks, so no worries about getting in too deep before you’re ready! You’ll be able to adjust to the sensation of breathing underwater, carrying all your equipment while swimming and seeing the ocean from a new perspective.

Once you’ve become comfortable in the shallow water we’ll venture further out into the ocean. The Discover Scuba Diving Course authorizes you to dive to a maximum of 40 feet (12 meters) which will allow you to experience the sensations of deep water pressure and diminishing light. Because the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef is so close by and there are so many options for exciting dives, you’ll be brought by boat to a place with ideal conditions in less than 10 minutes.

During your entire dive you’ll be closely supervised by at least one trained professional instructor. Safety is the top priority so you can be assured that you’ll have an enjoyable and supervised experience. The Discover Scuba Diving Course allows you find out if scuba diving is truly for you without having to commit to certification.

If you find that scuba diving is to your taste you can continue to do similar dives with an instructor or further your scuba skills by working towards certification. If you decide to continue, we guarantee a whole new world will open up for you and you can take advantage of our great Dive & Stay packages.
