WestJet Direct Flights to Roatan

In August 2019, WestJet Airlines, based out of Calgary, Canada, announced that it has added Roatan, Honduras to its growing list of direct flights out of Toronto.  Starting December 15, 2019 the airline will offer weekly non-stop flights from Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport in Coxen Hole, Roatan, Honduras.

The new WestJet direct flights to Roatan are timed for optimal connectivity with the Toronto hub.  The 4 hour and 41 minute departing flights are scheduled to leave Toronto at 9:30am and arrive in Roatan at 1:11pm.  Return flights will take 4 hours and 17 minutes and are scheduled to leave Roatan at 2:10pm and arrive in Toronto at 7:27pm    WestJet will operate Boeing 737 aircraft for the service that features both Premium and Economy cabins and includes WestJet Rewards points redemption and accumulation.  The cost of return flights start at just under $600 CAD or about $450 USD.

WestJet has been singled out as the Best Airline in Canada by the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards for Airlines for three years running since 2017.  It has received numerous other awards for its service, reward points program and branded credit card.  It’s also reported to be one of the few airlines in existence that doesn’t overbook its flights.

The company serves over 100 destinations throughout North America, the Caribbean, Central America and Europe.  WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer was quoted as saying, “With the addition of the snorkelling paradise of Roatán to our network, WestJet guests now have convenient access to 14 Caribbean destinations non-stop from Toronto this winter.  Roatán is home to miles of coastline featuring barrier reefs, white sand beaches and turquoise waters and is a bucket list getaway that we can’t wait for our guests to explore starting this December.”

Choosing a Boutique Hotel Experience on Roatan

For those arriving in Roatan who are looking for something different than the typical hotel package, the island features several boutique hotel resorts such as the Blue Bahia in Sandy Bay.  This eco-friendly, beachfront property is nestled in lush jungle with its own private beach and swimming pool.  The upscale condo-like apartments can sleep up to six people and overlook the pool and the ocean.  All apartments feature air conditioning, wifi and cable TV and most also include a fully equipped kitchen.

Blue Bahia Resort is conveniently located close to the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences and the dynamic village of West End which offers a wide array of bars, restaurants and nightclubs.  West Bay, with its world famous white sand beaches, can be easily reached by water taxi or a 10 minute drive over land.

Roatan Scuba Diving and Activities

Roatan has become known as a world class destination for scuba divers and snorkelers. Not only does it offer some of the most economically priced scuba diving in the world, it’s located on the second largest barrier reef on the planet, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System.  The waters surrounding Roatan are rich in sea life, including whale sharks, manatees, eagle rays, stingrays, dolphins and hawksbill turtles to name a few.  The island boasts over 100 dives sites with over 50 around the West End area alone.  There are several sunken ships to explore as well as the natural beauty of the reef itself.

For those who prefer to stay ashore, there are miles of pristine white sand beaches.  The jungle provides an incredible array of hiking opportunities and wildlife sanctuaries.  You can encounter monkeys, sloths, parrots, white tailed deer and an iguana farm that hosts over 3000 of the reptiles.  For the more adventurous there are several zipline companies, horseback tours, ATV rides and off road tours.  Roatan is also home to a wide assortment of restaurants, live music venues, bars and nightclubs.  Whatever type of food, drink or entertainment you’re looking for you’re very likely to find it on Roatan.
